Welcome to Illumine Productions, dedicated to developing and producing elevating documentary content. We focus on finding and telling untold stories that celebrate the diversity of life. We are also committed to exploring key intersections of policy, history and modern philosophy in the documentary genre.
Our most recent film, Challenging Impossibility, premiered at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival and was featured in the New York Times Blog. Challenging Impossibility is currently traveling the film festival circuit and is playing in about 7 festivals per month. (As of August 2011, it has been accepted into over 45 festivals)
Our previous short, Ocean Monk, has also been traveling the film festival circuit. After its premiere at the NY Surf Film Festival, it screened at the Big Apple Film Festival and the St. Louis International Film Festival, where it picked up an award in the short documentary category. It also won an Official Best of Fest Award, given to films that won awards at top festivals worldwide.
We are in pre-production on a feature-length documentary that explores the use of forensic science in historiography. Part CSI, part PBS, this revelatory doc will showcase the cutting edge techniques used to solve or prove some of the greatest historical mysteries. From the DNA analysis that finally revealed the fate of Anastasia Romanov to the use of technology in deep sea treasure hunts, advances in science have been critical to the advancement of important historical theories. We will explore such cases as Mary Todd Lincoln’s alleged cloak and the Thomas Jefferson / Sally Hemings relationship, the use of satellite imagery to find dig sites and sonar technology’s use in finding shipwrecks.
